Chapter Nine

Chase kissed her slowly, his hands cupping her face, his mouth moving on hers, urging her lips to part. And when they did part, his tongue claimed her, sweeping her mouth, tasting her and taunting her at one and the same time.

His hands slid down, over her throat. Still kissing her, he found the sides of the robe and peeled them slowly outward, over her shoulders and down her arms. She felt the coolness of the air on her bare breasts and belly.

And then his hands were sliding farther down to clasp hers. He pulled her up, not breaking the endless kiss, so she stood before him. He pushed the robe off and away as his mouth went on toying with hers. She heard the robe drop, like an exhaled breath, around her bare ankles.

Without the robe, she was totally nude. But he wasn’t giving her a chance to think much about that. He was still kissing her.

He put his hands on her hips for a moment, hands that felt slightly rough against her tender skin. She wanted to break the hold of his lips just enough to look down, to see the tan against the white. But before she could, those hands went roving upward, over her rib cage, to the side slopes of her breasts. They rested so lightly there, against her fullness. And then they moved around to the front of her.

He cupped her breasts. She felt her nipples, hard and aching, in the center of his palms.

She gave an urgent little cry into his mouth. He made a sound in response; a satisfied, masculine sound. And then his hands slid farther up. He took her shoulders.

And he broke the kiss. She blinked, bewildered, as he stepped back from her. He looked into her eyes. And then lower. He looked at all of her.

Her body burned as if he touched it everywhere.

And then he was meeting her eyes again. “Hi, there,” he said.

She felt a wavery smile bloom on her lips. “Hello.”

“I remember you.”

“Oh, Chase…” She just knew she was going to cry.

But he gathered her close. “It’s okay. Hey, it’s okay.” His hands stroked her back; long, soothing strokes. She melted into him. He felt so good, so right.

And suddenly, she couldn’t wait another minute to have him as naked as she was herself.

She pulled away and gazed directly into his eyes.

He saw the change in her right away. Some of the tenderness melted from his expression, leaving unabashed desire. “That’s better.”

“I do want you, Chase. You’re everything I swore never to want. But I do. Heaven help me, I do.”

“Show me.” His voice was low, husky. “Show me how much.”

She guided him around, until his back was to the bed. And then she pushed him down. She knelt before him and, with some effort, pulled off his boots. His socks came next. She threw them over her shoulder, one at a time.

He laughed then; a pleased, very masculine sound.

“Don’t just sit there,” she said. “Help me.
